2008 Nebraska Reading First Statewide Summer Institute

WHAT: Reading Teacher Team Training Institute including –

• Using assessment to inform instruction
• Instruction for struggling readers
• Designing effective lessons
• English Language Learners
• Phonemic Awareness
• Phonics and Word Study
• Fluency
• Vocabulary
• Comprehension
• Putting it all together!

WHO 1: Schools wanting to send a K-3 Literacy Team* including –

• Principal
• Classroom teachers K-3
• Title I staff
• K-6 SPED staff

*Team members AND principals must attend all days of the session. Principals will also be required to attend the Principals Institute if they have not previously.

WHO 2: Title I or SPED teachers who attended a prior year, but would like to be

trained in a different grade level.

WHO 3: Staff that wasn’t able to attend with their teams in years past.

WHEN: Choice of two locations & dates

June 30, July 1 & 2 – all team members (Kearney)

June 4 – 6 – all team members (Lincoln)

May 6 – Principal training only (Kearney)

May 7 – Principal training only (Lincoln)

8:30 – 4:00 CT

WHERE: Kearney location – Holiday Inn

Lincoln location – Cornhusker Marriott

Nebraska Reading First dollars will provide training materials, meals & registration cost. ESU #16 Title IIA will provide a stipend for all Title IIA Consortium school members that register through ESU #16. Register at esu16.org. Registration is limited so sign up early!
