Mary has been involved with the Dry Valley Church ever since 1932 when she lived just east of the church as a child and attended Sunday School every Sunday. At the time, the location of the ranch she lived on was referred to as Curlew, NE because of the post office which was there. Curlew, NE no longer exists.

They only held church at Dry Valley whenever a pastor would come from Mullen. Once in a while Dry Valley would have a traveling minister and potluck dinners. Families traveled as far as ten miles for church activities. They would get together with students from the James School to have a Children's Day. During Christmas all of the area country schools got together and practiced for a day for a program. They presented the program that night at the church, complete with sheets for stage curtains. At the time, a coal stove was used for heating and an outdoor pump for water.

In regards to the current renovation project, Mary commented she would like to see more finishing on the stage, the ceiling, and the floors.
