Brownlee has a very interesting and complex history. This town was established between 1882 and 1886. Consequently, it is said that the name Brownlee came from two of the first families that moved there--the Brown's and the Lee's. However, according to certain resources, the name came from an actual maiden name--Brownlee. Each story is interesting and unique in its own way. From the Black Settlement to the White Settlement, there are numerous different stories and facts that can be learned through the history of Brownlee.
