Cedarview Dry Valley Eclipse Long's Seneca Virginia
Northwest of Seneca, NE, up the hill from the orginal Calvin Long homestead lies Long's Cemetery. The first people buried there in 1899 were Hugh and Dennis, the infant twins of Floyd and Candis Pool. Funeral services were usually held in the family homes and June Morris (the great great granddaughter of Calvin Long) says she remembers going to “a lot of funerals there."
Buried there are cousins of the family, James and Robert Jones, who hailed from Independence Virginia. They both died in 1918 from the flu, at the young ages of 21 and 23. June Morris's great grandfather, killed by a run-a-way horse and found by a travelling peddler, is also laid to rest there.
Twenty-three people are buried in this small cemetery. The land is owned by John and Lynn Mundorf and is located near the Ericksen and McNitt places. It is maintained by family and “whoever wants to do it.” The last person buried there was Floyd Pool on October 24, 1954.
