Other Ways to Support Your Child's Learning at Home
  • Read to your child every day. Children's novels and short chapter books make great read alouds. Second graders love to hear picture books too.
  • Listen to your child read every day. They can read their library books, familiar books that you have at home, children's magazines, etc.
  • Make it a fun time to be together
  • Practice reading the sight words and the word families (found on the parent resources page)
  • Give your child change to sort and count
  • Have your child figure out what time it will be in 5 minutes, 15 minutes, half an hour, an hour, etc.
  • Play board games that involve math such as Monoply, Yahtzee, etc.
  • Play board games that involve reading or spelling such as Scrabble Jr., Boggle Jr., etc.
