Standards: NDE Reading Standards Objectives:
8.1.3 By the end of eighth grade students will identify and classify different types of text. Compare reading science to reading other subjects.
8.1.5 By the end of the eighth grade students will identify and apply knowledge of the text structure and organizational elements to analyze nonfiction or informational text. Identify organizational elements and graphic features of nonfiction texts (heading, subheading, italics, bold print, captions, charts, tables, cartoons, illustrations).
Examine the different parts of a science textbook
Discuss the ways that information is usually organized in a science textbook.
